A Phobia is an irrational fear in which the person has a relentless dread of a specific situation. those with a phobia go to great lengths to avoid a perceived threat or danger which is far greater in their minds than in real life.

There are many causes of phobias. Some develop during childhood, some are learned and some are developed after an event. Typical symptoms can include avoidance of a certain thing or place, sweating, palpitations, flushes and chills, rapid breathing, stomach tension/upset and a general sense of fear.
